The Ottawa Fire Department is lacking in one piece of equipment that could be a real life saver. Oxygen masks, for pets. A local woman is spearheading a campaign to raise cash to buy one for every firehouse in the city.
It’s an ambitious project. but a fairly inexpensive one. Andrea Cormack-Akeson has been trying to raise the 3,000 dollars needed to buy oxygen mask kits for every fire station in the city. She tells the Ottawa Citizen, if there is anything than can be done to help out fire departments, there is no reason why we shouldn’t.
Cormac-Akeson started the project in the spring, when she read the Toronto Fire Department has pet oxygen masks, and thought “…why not Ottawa.” The Fire Service is completely behind the project as well. Spokesperson Marc Messier says they would be a welcome addition to the cities life saving arsenal. Donations are accepted at Critter Jungle, The Ottawa Veterinary Hospital and online at responsibledogowners.ca.
