Two homes gutted after Massive fire near Smiths Falls

A massive fire in Jasper burnt two homes to the ground and cut out power and phone service to the surrounding area.
Firefighters got the call to the village near Smiths Falls just before 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
The first person on scene was a firefighter who lives in the area.
By the time he got there flames had already engulfed the first home and were spreading to the neighbouring house.
The mother and three children who live in the first home weren’t there at the time and their neighbor fled when the blaze began.
The flames were so intense that it took nearly 50 firefighters three hours to get the flames under control.
One of them told the Ottawa Sun in 35-years they’ve never seen two houses go up at once.
At this point investigators don’t have a cause for the blaze.
