Ottawa’s newly elected council passed a new transit commission and a lobbyist registry at their first council meeting on Thursday morning.
The Transit Commission will be composed of eight councillors and four members of the public who will be responsible for the operation of OC Transpo and Para Transpo.
CBC reports that the new council also approved measures to improve transparency at Ottawa City Hall.
Those measures include requiring the mayor and councillors to post their monthly office budgets and expenditures online. Council also approved bringing in an integrity commissioner and a lobbyist registry.
The City Treasurer is to set a timeline for establishing the 2011 budget and it is to be submitted to council by December 15.
