Developers continue clear-cutting Beaver Pond forest

It’s all-systems go for developers planning to clear-cut parts of Beaver Pond forest in Kanata Lakes.
Urbandale installed 25 metres of fencing Thursday around five stones believed to be part of an ancient native ceremonial site.There is some support for the view that the stones are not native, but that they were used by early home-steaders as property markers.Native leader Ron “Bigbear” Goddard toured the site Thursday and believes the stones are part of a medicine wheel, an Algonquin astrological teaching and healing tool.
Councillor Marianne Wilkinson says there will be no cutting in that specific area until it is determined what the stones are.
An Urbandale spokesperson says development plans will not be stalled, as there are no trees in the immediate area anyway.
