Former Russell Mayor Michael McHugh Dead at 56
Former Russell Township Mayor Michael McHugh has died at the age of 56.
He was found in his Russell apartment on Monday night by his ex-wife Kathleen after his landlord became concerned when he didn’t answer the phone or the door.
Police said that an autopsy would be conducted but that they didn’t suspect foul play.

A former journalist and councillor, McHugh served as mayor from 2003-2006.
Under McHugh’s leadership the municipality started the work to build a water pipeline from Ottawa that was just completed last year.
McHugh also received nationwide attention when during his term when he banned a local resident from attending council meetings for what he deemed was abusive behaviour towards township staff.
