Most Canadians used work computers for personal use

According to a study, your colleague in the next cubicle staring intently at the computer screen, may not be hard at work after all.

The study of 34 big Canadian companies, by Palo Alto Networks, found that Canadians spend a lot of time at work on personal business, tweeting, texting, watching videos on YouTube, updating Facebook and filling out dating applications.

The statistics also showed that 88 percent of Canadians used some sort of Instant Messaging while at work and 91 percent used personal web-based mail while at work.

In addition, the study revealed that employees weren’t just wasting company time, but that heavy use of Facebook and YouTube was sucking up six percent of available bandwidth at their workplaces.
