Bountiful women take the stand

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Court testimony is giving us an inside view of the fundamentalist Mormon community of Bountiful, in the Kootenays. Some women from that community are sharing their side of the story at the trial looking into Canada’s polygamy laws.
One woman took the stand via video link. She was kept out of frame and was only identified as “Witness Number 2.”
She’s in her early 40s but was married at 16, and now lives with her husband and his other wife. She has nine children, and lives in a home of 30.
Witness Number 2 says living in Bountiful hasn’t been as strict as some think. She finished high school, was encouraged to get a college degree, and was given the choice to marry.
But she feels laws against polygamy cause outsiders to treat her community with prejudice.
