Quebec lawyers on the picket line

Crown prosecutors and government lawyers in Quebec are pounding the picket line.
The one-thousand government lawyers and 450 prosecutors have launched job action to back their demand for a 40 per cent pay hike.
Quebec prosecutors top out at about 102-thousand-dollars a year, compared with their Ontario counterparts at 196-thousand.
Quebec’s Treasury Board president says the salary demands are excessive.
While the strike is on, one law expert says some prosecutors will still have to do their work because of essential service laws in Quebec.
Sebastian Grammond, the associate dean of law at Ottawa U, says cases where the accused is in jail waiting for trial will likely go on as normal.
He says the biggest impact will likely be on criminal cases.
