Three people displaced after a kitchen fire in Vanier

The Red Cross and the Salvation Army are stepping up to help a local family after a fire a 156 Tabor  Drive in Vanier this afternoon.

Ottawa Fire Crews say the fire started on the kitchen stove and spread to cupboards above.

Crews got the call at 2:30pm and quickly contained the fire to the kitchen by 2:45pm.

Damage estimated at $50,000 to the building and $25,000 to it’s contents.

A mother and her two teenagers were home at the time, they were outside when fire crews arrived.

The mother  was assessed on the scene by paramedics for smoke inhalation, but not taken to hospital.

The cause of the fire is believed to be due to unattended cooking.
