School overcrowding hot topic again

Some Glebe parents have claimed the Ottawa School Board’s plan to alleviate overcrowding is based on flimsy evidence.

Instead of solving any problems, the parents said, it will end up causing families some major hassles if siblings are forced to attend different schools.

That very issue has taken centre stage for Tuesday nights’s board meeting.

The Ottawa Citizen has reported that French immersion schools popularity has driven up enrollment at some schools, pulling students away from nearby English schools, and the board is not able to meet demands because they are slow in building new schools as fast-growing suburbs develop.
