Watson confident new Frank Clair will be ready for Women’s World Cup

Mayor Jim Watson is confident that Frank Clair Stadium will be ready for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2015.

Ottawa is on the list of candidate host cities for the international event, but isn’t a shoe-in.

Six cities will host, but seven have applied including Vancouver, Montreal, Halifax, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Moncton.

Ottawa hosted seven games during the men’s U-20 World Cup in 2007 to FIFA’s satisfaction.

Demolition of the old stadium is set to start in May, and the completion of the refurbished Frank Clair is set for June of 2013.
