The city police budget has passed, with the force getting an additional 2.5 per cent.
That increase, coupled with retirements, would leave you to think the force is in good financial shape.
But that’s not the case, according to Police Chief Vern White.
White says not only do they lose a $700,000 hiring grant from the Federal government in 2013, but the force will have to “rob Peter to pay Paul,” taking cash to build capital projects which means less money to hire new officers.
The Ottawa Police Services Board approved the police budget Monday, which would cost the average household $12 more this year.
White says holding that line will get tougher in coming years.
