During their conversation on Friday the Prime Minister spoke on behalf of all Canadians, saying our thoughts and prayers are with all of the people who have been impacted by this disaster.
Canada will stand by Japan as it deals with the aftermath.
Harper says our country is ready to provide assistance and support to help the Japanese people recover.
So far there are no reports of Canadians being injured or killed but our embassy in Japan is in close contact with Japanese authorities.
