Missing Manitoba men face terrorism-related charges

Two students from the University of Manitoba are accused of traveling to Pakistan for terrorist training in firearms, scouting, guerilla warfare and explosives.
R-C-M-P say Ferid Ahmed Imam and Maiwand Yar are facing terrorism-related charges for allegedly planning to participate as insurgents in the war in Afghanistan.
One of the men is also accused of training others.
Mounties say Yar was reported missing in Winnipeg in March 2007 and within five days, a missing person report had evolved into a national security investigation.
R-C-M-P Assistant Commissioner Bill Robinson says both men entered Pakistan on tourist visas, but there are no records of them leaving that country through any major departure points.
He says investigators believe the two traveled to Peshawar in the northern frontier of Pakistan which borders Afghanistan, but their whereabouts are not known.
News that police were looking for terrorism suspects in Manitoba first surfaced last fall with reports that three Manitoba students had disappeared in Pakistan.
It was reported that the case was one of the largest security investigations in Canada since the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001.
