Harper says now’s not good time for election

Prime Minister Stephen Harper gave assurances to business leaders today that the upcoming federal budget won’t increase their taxes or cancel their tax breaks.
But the PM also assured them there’s enough to satisfy the opposition parties and hopefully stave off an election.
Harper gave the speech to the Mississauga Board of Trade at the Pearson Convention Centre in Brampton Thursday.
Other than a small tax incentive for parents who enroll their kids in artistic programs, Harper said there will essentially be no new spending in the budget.
“We must return gradually but unmistakenly to a balanced budget. and to do so, by keeping spending down,” Harper said. “This will not be on the backs of pensioners nor need the provinces need to fear shrinkage of federal transfers for healthcare and education.”
He said there are many sound measures the opposition should be able to support.
He maintained that Canadian economic recovery remains fragile and an election won’t help.
