Toronto sludge spread on area fields

If you smell something stinking in Eastern Ontario, it just might be Toronto. Literally.
The Citizen is reporting the country’s biggest city has signed a deal with Third High Farms of Iroquois to supply a minimum of 10,000 tonnes a year of biosolids. This comes after years of debate on whether Ottawa sewage sludge should be spread on our fields.
Third High Farms already takes 45,000 tonnes of Ottawa sludge.
This comes as a report shows that Toronto sludge has been spread on other farmland for the last five years under a contract that ends this summer.
Toronto used to send its sludge to Michigan until that state stopped accepting it.
