B.C. Lions close in on opening day roster

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The B.C. Lions will be finalizing their 2011 CFL roster this week.
Coach and general manager Wally Buono says that the roster currently stands at 60 and will be cut down to opening day numbers by Thursday or Friday morning at the earliest. Buono wants to have the team set well in advance of their flight to Montreal next Tuesday for their June 30 regular season opener against the Alouettes.
Buono plans to give his veterans a lot of playing time Wednesday when the Lions finish the CFL preseason against Saskatchewan at Empire Field.
One of the final battles to be settled is for the third-string quarterback job between Mike Reilly and Corey Leonard. Reilly, who starred at Central Washington, was added to the Lions’ practice roster last July after his release from the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks. Leonard is attending his first camp after playing his college football at Arkansas State.
The Lions also plan to bump up the playing time for starting quarterback Travis Lulay, to get Lulay and the other veterans ready for their season opener Thursday, June 30 in Montreal.
