Canada Post, postal workers union talks stall as back-to-work law will be tabled Monday

OTTAWA – Looming back-to-work legislation has stalled talks between Canada Post and its locked-out workers.

1310News has learned that the federal government will table the law just after 3 p.m. today.

A union official says scheduled negotiations keep getting postponed and workers believe the Crown corporation is now just waiting for the law to come into force.

But Canada Post spokesman Jon Hamilton says they are still aiming for a negotiated settlement.

Members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers are marching at a number of rallies across the country including Ottawa this afternoon at 5 p.m. at Sparks and Elgin to gain public support for their cause.

The union says it will protest any back-to-work bill and believes that is what Canada Post has wanted all along.
