Bieksa re-signs with Canucks

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Kevin Bieksa has signed a new five-year deal with the Vancouver Canucks.

The 30-year-old defenceman has spent his entire six-year NHL career with Vancouver and was to have become an unrestricted free agent this Friday. The average of $4.6 million in his new deal would make the Grimsby, Ontario native the highest-paid defenceman on the Canucks’ roster.

Bieksa had six goals and 16 point during the regular season but had a standout spring, adding five goals and five assists during the Canucks’ run to the Stanley Cup Final.  That included a double-overtime winner against San Jose back on May 24, which is arguably one of the greatest and most unusual playoff goals in Vancouver history. The goal helped the Canucks defeat the Sharks in five games in the NHL Western Conference final.
