Ericsson Canada’s Ottawa campus moving to Kanata Research Park

A big blue ribbon and some good news for Ottawa’s tech sector–930 Ericsson Canada employees will be staying the Ottawa area.

Tuesday morning Mayor Jim Watson and Mark Henderson, President and CEO of Ericsson Canada announced that the company’s Ottawa campus will be moving to Kanata Research Park.

Ericsson’s Ottawa lab is currently located at Carling Ave. home of the Nortel Campus. Last winter, when the federal government bought the Nortel Campus,  there was concern that the city might lose its Ericsson employees.

Watson said a few months ago he met with Henderson, and site leader for Ericsson Ottawa, Margaret Harrington to try and keep the jobs in the region.

Watson says that Ottawa is an easy sell and that it makes good sense for the company to stay in the ottawa area.

“It’s a good quality of life, it’s a manageable city, it’s close to a highway network and airport access, so we’ve got a lot going for ourselves.”

The new facility will have approximately  200, 000 square feet with potential for a 40,000 more. This means more jobs for Ottawa’s tech sector.

Harrington said Ericsson is projecting to expand its Ottawa employee base by ten per cent. That’s roughly 100 more jobs.
