Severe thunderstorm warning for
Ottawa South – Richmond – Metcalfe issued
A line of thunderstorms from east of Petawawa to Peterborough is moving east at around 50 km/h. These storms are expected to reach the western section of Ottawa at shortly after 5:30 PM. Some of these storms may approach severe limits. These severe thunderstorms can produce 2 to 3 cm hail and up to 110 km/h winds over the above regions. There is a slight risk of a funnel cloud or tornado east of Petawawa to Ottawa in the next couple of hours.
Severe thunderstorms are imminent or occurring in the area. These storms may produce large hail, damaging winds or heavy rainfall. Remember that some severe thunderstorms can also produce tornadoes.
Monitor weather conditions and take immediate safety precautions if threatening weather approaches.
A cold front is expected to sweep across Southern Ontario this afternoon and evening. Thunderstorms have developed ahead of this cold front, some may become severe in nature. Strong winds heavy downpours and large hail will be the main threat. There is a slight risk of funnel cloud or tornado over Extreme Eastern Ontario this evening.
