Lightning strikes Gatineau

The severe thunderstorm that struck Ottawa last night also created havoc for Gatineau firefighters.    A neighbour on Saint-Rene boulevard used his garden hose to battle flames until firefighters arrived following a lightning strike.   The home did have a lightning rod, but it malfunctioned and sent a charge into the walls of the house.     The family opted not to stay in their home last night, but do expect to return today.   Half an hour later, lightning struck a barn on Pierre Laporte Road in L’Ange Gardien.   The structure was destroyed.   In both cases, no injuries were reported.
