The heat is on!

Temperature records are falling across Canada and the U.S. as a massive tropical air mass over the American mid west and southwestern Ontario is slowly drifting to the northeast and toward eastern Ontario.
It should be hovering over the capital by Thursday.
On Tuesday, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba all set power consumption records while Winnipeg tied a temperature record hitting 34 degrees and with a humidex it felt like 43.
If you have a swimming pool, you will be extremely popular over the next few days as that air mass rolls over us with scorching temperatures and oppressive humidity.
It’s expected to hit 31 degrees with the humidity making it feel like 40.
As for here in the city, the health department has closed another beach for cooling off.
Petrie Island River Beach is off limits for taking a dip.
As well, the city’s air conditioned facilities, community centres and arenas will be open for residents to beat the heat.
If you think Wednesday will be hot, stock up on ice for Thursday, as the temperature in the capital is expected to nudge an all time record of 37 degrees.
