Blue Jays win in air conditioned Rogers Centre

TORONTO, On – For the first time in Blue Jays history, the Rogers Centre roof was closed during an afternoon game due to extreme heat. Environment Canada reported temperatures as high as 37 degrees in Toronto, although with the humidex it felt more like 48 degrees.
The Jays made their decision Wednesday night; a rare move considering they usually don’t announce the roof’s status until hours before the game.
The last time the Jays shut the roof for a non rain-related reason was on August 27, 1990, when a swarm of gnats caused the roof to be closed.
The closed dome didn’t seem to bother the Blue Jays this afternoon. They completed their three game sweep of the Seattle Mariners with a 7-5 victory.
The Jays are 8-2 in their last 10 games. They will look to continue their success when they head to Texas for a three game set on Friday. They won’t escape the heat though; the forecast in Texas is even hotter for the weekend.
