One of the companies charged in connection with the collapse of a stage in Alberta during a severe storm said it had a good safety record.
Brian Andrews of Premier Global Production Company said its stages have been inspected, engineered and built according to professionals in the industry. He said he’s bewildered by the charges laid under Alberta’s Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Two of the charges allege the Tennessee-based company failed to ensure the stage and equipment were strong enough to withstand the storm. One woman was killed and 75 other people were injured in August of 2009 when the fierce storm tore through the grounds of the Big Valley Jamboree.
Premier Global Production and event organizer Panhandle Productions face a total of 27 charges. A contractor faces another six. Most of the charges relate to failing to ensure the health and safety of workers.
All three companies are due in Camrose provincial court September 28th.
