Sick leave up at Ottawa Fire

Management and union officials plan to investigate whether new 24-hr shifts are to blame for a spike in sick leave among Ottawa firefighters.
There was a 10 percent jump in sick leave in the last year. Union president Peter Kennedy tells the Sun he suspects the increase is more likely due to the increasing age of many firefighters.
200 plan to retire in the next four years and Kennedy says sick leave tends to increase as the firefighters approach retirement age.
