Tropical Storm Katia

A new tropical storm is brewing and is forming over the Atlantic Ocean.

Tropical Storm Katia could reach hurricane intensity by Wednesday according the US National Hurricane Centre.

Katia is located about 855 kilometres west-southwest of the Cape Verde Islands and moving “quickly west-northwestward across the tropical Atlantic,” said the National Hurricane Centre in Miami.

According to CBC meteorologist Johanna Wagstaffe, forecast models indicate the storm could reach hurricane status as it approaches the Carribean.

The Name Katia is the next name in line replacing Katrina which caused catastrophic damage in 2005 in New Orleans.
