Fire ousted tenants allowed to return home

OTTAWA – After being homeless for two days, residents of an East end apartment are moving back in.
It was a strange scene in the parking lot at 1244 Donald St. on Wednesday evening. Families unloaded cars and lugged large suitcases, overflowing with clothing back into the building as they moved back into their apartments.
Apartment spokesperson Danny Roth said it was a happy day. “It’s a good news day,” he said. “This is about as good news as they’ve received in the past 48 hours.”
But not everyone was happy to be home. Many residents said they want to leave because of the poor living conditions.
Sarah Simon said her many parts of her apartment are broken and there are bed bugs in the building.
She said she’s not thrilled to move back in. “We’re kind of counting the months until the lease is up,” she said.
