An autopsy confirms that a foot encased in a size nine men’s running shoe that washed ashore in BC is human.
The foot was attached to lower leg bones.
Coroner Stephen Fonseca says the foot shows no obvious trauma and officials can’t yet say where it came from.
DNA analysis will determine if the remains are that of a man or woman.
Vancouver Police and the RCMP will provide Fonseca with missing persons’ cases so he can try figuring out the individual’s identity.
The foot was found floating in the water just south of downtown Vancouver on Tuesday.
In the past four years, about a dozen feet encased in shoes have washed up near Vancouver, the southern Georgia Strait and off Washington state.
While some have been identified as those of missing people, none have been linked to criminal activity.
