OTTAWA – One of the best summers in Ottawa is about to wind up this weekend.
Whether you’re heading out of town or staying in the city, you can expect a slower commute Friday afternoon on the main routes in and out of the city.
Ontario Provincial Police will be out in full force on highways, trails and waterways clamping down on unsafe drivers.
Drinking and driving will result in immediate roadside licence suspensions for drivers caught with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.05 to 0.08
Drivers 21 years of age and under must have a zero blood alcohol concentration.
Stunts, racing or going 50 km/h or more than the speed limit will result in immediate, seven day licence suspension and vehicle impoundment
Texting, typing, emailing, dialing or chatting using a hand held device will get you $155 ticket.
Provincial police report a 6 per cent increase in collisions so far this year compared to last.
Police will also be off roading this weekend.
You will find police patrolling the waterways and remember that the same rules apply on rivers and lakes as on the road when it comes to alcohol, there is zero tolerance.
Ontario has the tightest boating and drinking laws in the country.
