Ottawa’s drinking water gets a perfect score

OTTAWA – Another straight A’s report card for the City of Ottawa’s tap water in its annual review by the province.
All six of Ottawa’s drinking water treatment facilities scored perfect 10’s in 14 different categories judged by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment.
Many Ottawa residents told 1310News they do trust the city’s tap water. “I’ve always drank tap water,” said Meredith. “I’ve never had a problem with it.”
“I like the tap water here in Ottawa, it tastes very good,” said Jeremy.
For residents like Des who have lived in other countries where drinking water isn’t safe the high score is good news.
“I’m quite pleased to drink the water here,” he said.
Others were a little more uneasy, wanting to know how accurate the results are and what effect the Ottawa River has on the city’s drinking water.
“I don’t trust my tap water,” said Miriam. “I feel there’s a lot of chlorine in it so I filter it.”
And Tom said he was skeptical the results were true because of all he had heard about the quality of the water in the Ottawa River.
“If it is true, I am very happy,” he said, adding he drinks the tap water despite his concerns.
Other skeptics said they use filters, either in the fridge or right on the tap, but would drink the tap water straight if they had to.
