Capital’s Terry Fox Run draws 2,500

Residents of the capital carried on the Marathon of Hope at the annual Terry Fox Run on Sunday.
Organizers said that 2500 people participated in the annual fundraiser run which started at Carleton University’s Anniversary Park.
The fundraiser was an emotional event for many participants who have lost loved ones to cancer.
Organizer Jenny Green said she was inspired to volunteer for personal reasons.
“I didn’t really get involved in the Terry Fox Run until about 2003, when my mum died of cancer. 2004 was my first Terry Fox Run,” she said. “There have been a lot of people in my family too, so this is just my way of feeling that there is some hope.”
Many runners like Paul attended the fundraiser with their families. Paul said he has been to the run every single fall for 14 years.
“We’re here with the whole family and friends,” said Paul. “It’s a yearly tradition!’
People ran, cycled, wheeled and even traveled the 10 kilometers on roller-blades. After they crossed the finish line, participants celebrated at a barbecue in Anniversary Park.
There were other runs in Kanata, Orleans, Manotick, and Constance Bay.
