Mass grave found in Libya

Libyan revolutionary authorities say they have discovered a mass grave containing the remains of over a thousand inmates, believed to have been killed by the Gadhafi regime in a 1996 prison massacre.

The site was found near Tripoli’s Abu Salim prison.  The victims were killed after protesting conditions at the facility.

The announcement was made by the government committee overseeing the search for victims of the former regime.

Investigators found the grave two weeks ago after getting information from captured regime officials and witnesses but have only now identified the number of bodies buried there.

Officials will ask for international assistance identifying the remains.
