After a month of living in a construction zone, students living in Carleton University’s newest residence said they are getting fed up.
The Lennox and Addington building was set to be completed by the beginning of the school year, but when the project fell behind students were forced to move into a construction zone.
Many students said they are happy to be in the school’s newest residence but they said the construction is a constant irritation.
In an effort to complete the project by late October, construction starts at 7:00 every morning.
It’s an alarm clock for students with early class but a huge inconvenience for students that don’t.
“I mean it gets really irritating because you wake up and you’re like ‘I don’t actually have to be up at seven,'” said Marissa.
The unfinished project has meant uncertain living conditions for many residents like Kurt who ended up bunking with an unexpected room mate.
“I originally applied to get a single room but we’re all being forced to share one,” he said. “So I am just sort of looking forward to getting my own room.”
Some students said the noise and dust is bearable, but said there are some problems they just can’t ignore.
“My friend, he got out of the shower and there were a bunch of construction workers sitting on his bed,” said Breanna.”And they used his washroom and stuff!”
Some students have taken their anger online by compiling a list on Facebook “Reasons We Hate Our Res.”
According to the student newspaper, some students have been suffering from chronic nosebleeds which they believe are caused by all the dust.
Many students said they hope the construction finishes on time so they can concentrate on midterms.
