The Ottawa Police, OPP and RCMP are calling a year long drug investigation a success.
The project, dubbed “Project Finale” resulted in 107 charges being laid against 12 people.
On Wednesday, 16 search warrants were executed in Ottawa, including one in a Hell’s Angels clubhouse on Eighth Line Rd.
Police seized more than $172,000 in controlled substances, including marijuana, cocaine, hash, and ecstasy. They also seized more than $150,000 in assets related to the proceeds of criminal activity.
The group was comprised of many people known to police and led by Michael Clairoux, a “full-patch member” of the Hell’s Angels Ontario Nomad chapter.
“These are very dangerous people and that’s one reason we are so pleased,” says Ottawa Police Inspector Samir Bhatnagar. “The city is a lot safer today than it was a few days ago.”
Police say there are still about eight or nine “full-patch members” of the Nomads in Ottawa.
The 11 people arrested will be in court today on a number of charges including conspiracy to produce and traffic controlled substances, possession of controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking, proceeds of crime and participating in a criminal organization.
“This group is known to potentially move 300 to 400 thousand dollars a month in illegal substances,” says Bhatnagar.
