Pumpkin thief released on bail, charges upgraded

Korey Perry, 19, has been released from police custody, posting a $2,000 bail Thursday after his charges were upgraded from assault causing bodily harm to manslaughter.
Perry is accused of causing the death of Good Samaritan Paul Hines, 57, who was beaten into a coma for trying to stop a pumpkin robbery at an IGA in Aylmer on September 29th.
As people celebrated Hines’ life at his funeral, Perry was re-arrested around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday and he appeared in Gatineau court later that evening before a bail hearing Thursday morning.
Police have not released the autopsy results, but have upgraded the charge against Perry to manslaughter.
Wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans, and his head shaved to stubble, Perry appeared in court late Wednesday making eye contact with a family member four times.
Perry is due back in court November 24.
