BC Place workers reach agreement

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – After a late-night bargaining session, BC Place and unionized workers have reached a tentative agreement. The BC Government and Service Employees Union is recommending acceptance.
“We’re glad this tentative agreement could be reached without any disruption to operations at BC Place,” says BCGEU President Darryl Walker. “Our members were seeking a fair collective agreement and they got it.”
There were plans to move the BC Lions game scheduled for this Saturday because of a threat of a possible strike. “What we don’t need in this community is any negative impact that for some reason a game wouldbe postponed or moved or something like that,” says the team’s President and CEO Dennis Skulsky.
“We are pleased that we have reached a tentative collective agreement satisfactory to both parties, and we look forward to moving ahead together with all of the events planned for BC Place in the future,” says BC Place GM Howard Crosley.
Workers didn’t picket outside the Vancouver Whitecaps game this past weekend, saying it was a “good-faith” move. Roughly 600 employees will vote on the proposed agreement this upcoming weekend.
