Mayor Watson celebrates 1 year in office

The one year anniversary of Ottawa city council is Tuesday and the honeymoon doesn’t appear to be over for Mayor Jim Watson.

A forum research poll found he has a 66 percent approval rating, the fifth best out of Canada’s 15 biggest cities. And he feels the first year started off on the right foot, recalling the standing ovation he received after the city budget was approved last year.

The second budget is on the horizon for Wednesday.  Watson doesn’t expect to present any surprises to council or the public.

It wouldn’t be his style.  He called it “a continuation of the same, stable, predictable approach” of last year. That would mean, any increase has to come in under 2.5 percent.
