Distracting driving law 2 years old

TORONTO, Ont. – Two years ago, Ontario passed the distracted driving law, yet many drivers still continue to text and talk while behind the wheel.
In 2009, the McGuinty government enacted the law that made it illegal for drivers to use hand-held cell phones and other wireless devices while driving.
The use of hands-free devices is still permitted.
Drivers caught using a hand-held device will face a $500 penalty.
A recent survey found 50 per cent of drivers said they see other drivers using a cell phone when driving, but only 16 per cent admitted they do it.
