Baby girl severely burned while being bathed

SURREY (NEWS1130) – A-three-month-old baby girl from Newton is badly burned after being left in a kitchen sink with the water running.

She was about to be given a bath when the water got stuck on hot.

RCMP Cpl. Drew Granger says the kitchen sink is where the girl is always bathed.

“It appears as though while the child was in the sink, [she] somehow manipulated the tap to make hot water come out, causing significant burns,” he says.

Those burns being first- and second-degree, covering much of her lower body.

He says the baby was taken out of the water very quickly.

“Ambulance was activated, which then activated our air ambulance, which then evacuated the child to BC Children’s Hospital.”

We don’t know all the circumstances leading up to the injury but Grainger says the Serious Crimes Unit has been called in as a precaution to secure the scene and canvas witnesses for any further information.
