New giant Ottawa IKEA open

OTTAWA – Just follow the arrows or perhaps the cars.  There should be plenty of those as more than 13,000 shoppers are expected to take in the grand opening of the brand new Ikea store, located right beside the old one just off Pinecrest.

The store, the largest in Canada, will be home to 9,500 products, 55 inspirational room settings, 28 creative kitchen concepts and three full house displays.

There will be opening ceremonies beginning at 8:30 with entertainment, giveaways and remarks by Mayor Jim Watson and Ikea Canada president Kerri Molinaro.

The floor space of the new store has tripled in size and every product made by Ikea will be available.  That’s twice as many products as the old store.

The best news for shoppers may be the 36 checkouts compared to 8 in the old store.

Parking has doubled as well, but that will likely be unable to prevent the madhouse, so Ottawa police will be on hand to keep the traffic moving as best they can.
