Fourth annual ‘Cop Shop’

Ottawa – It’s the fourth annual “Cop Shop” and grade school students from 25 local schools had the chance to shop at the Carlingwood Mall accompanied by an Ottawa Police officer so they can bring home surprise Christmas presents for their families.
For 9-year-old Abdullah, this was a chance to buy an iPod for his brother.
“In my country, Libya, he got shot so I wanted to get him something,” he said, adding his brother loves music and it will make him feel better.
“I got my dad some perfume and I already got my brother a remote control car and a new Wii game,” said Destiny, 10.
“I got for all of us a Wii and some cds, a lot of games and a puzzle for my sister and three hampsters for my younger sisters,” said Abdamalik, 9 who was shopping for his parents and two sisters.
And Sergeant John Fergusen told 1310News this event really helps him get into the holiday spirit.
“If this doesn’t get you ready for Christmas I don’t know what does, you must have a black heart or something,” he said.
Constable Alison Kennedy said this is a great experience for children and officers alike.
“Getting to hang out with kids from schools in our area and we get to shop with Carlingwood’s money and it’s just a really good experience for them. It’s good to have that connection within the community as well.”
