Barrhaven plane crash victims identified

OTTAWA – The names of the two men killed in a Barrhaven plane crash have been released.
55-year-old Dr. Barry Stratton and passenger Jacques Domey, who was in his 60’s died when their plane went down in a field off Leiken Drive last night. Stratton was the pilot.
Simon Garrett, airport manager at the Rockcliffe Flying Club tells 1310News the two were experienced pilots.
Flight records show the plane left Ottawa on December 3 and flew to Naples and Fort Lauderdale, Florida before returning to Ottawa via Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. The plane also spent time in the Caribbean.
The plane was scheduled to land at the Carp Airport.
Marc Messier of Ottawa Fire told 1310News the area around the crash was also very hazardous as the plane clipped a Hydro pole and there was the possibility of live wires down.
Crews searched nearby fields, and surrounding water in case it had landed in the water.
Power was knocked out for over 2,600 customers in the area for several hours.
Merivale Road was shut down between Prince of Wales Drive and Fallowfield Road. All roads later re-opened.
There is still no word on what caused the Cessna 177 to go down.
Chris Krepski, spokesman of the Transportation Safety Board of Canada spokesman said two investigators have been assigned to the crash.
