Salvation Army workers to strike

OTTAWA, On.- Equal pay for equal work is all 60 people at the Salvation Army shelter are looking for.

They could walk off the job Tuesday, rejecting a contract offer which would still leave them anywhere from two to four dollars less an hour than their counterparts at other shelters.

The union says the timing wasn’t chosen specifically, telling the Ottawa Citizen  they do not want to be seen as using their  clients as pawns.

The Salvation Army currently has close to two hundred beds at Booth street and a neighbouring shelter.

A Salvation Army spokesperson says they have a plan in place and clients will not be adversely affected.
