Carleton University to create sexual assault support centre

OTTAWA – Carleton University is expecting to open a support centre for sexual assault victims by next September.
Linda Capperauld, the Director of Equity Services says the administration found some space for the centre and renovations will be required to get it ready.
The creation of such a centre has been the goal of a group of students led by co founder, Julie Lalonde.
She tells 1310News, the group was sent a short e-mail requesting a meeting with them this morning and Lalonde is disappointed with the administration’s lack of will to add student support to the program.
She says the only offer made to the coalition was a seat at the table of a soon to be created advisory board.
The Coalition has been pushing for such a support centre since a 2007 attack on a female student in a lab on campus.
