Community builder Jean Pigott passes at 87

OTTAWA – Community builder Jean Pigott has passed away at the age of 87. Her son John Pigott says she passed away early this morning at Grace Manor. She was born in May of 1924 in the same place, when it was still Grace Hospital.

John Pigott said his mother leaves behind her a “remarkable record in business and public life.”

She was named an officer of the Order of Canada and served as MP for Ottawa-Carleton, a senior advisor to Prime Minister Joe Clark and as Chair of the N.C.C. and the Ottawa Congress Centre.

A hall at Ottawa City Hall is named for Jean Pigott.

City flags remain at half-staff Tuesday morning.

Funeral service details will be released later in the week.
