Blaze at Barbarella’s Cabaret suspected arson

OTTAWA, Ont. – At 4:50 a.m. Monday Ottawa Fire responded to a fire at Barbarella’s Cabaret at 340 Queen Street.  It was reported there was a small fire in the foyer of the building.

The fire was brought under control in under an hour and there were no injuries.

Damage is estimated to be $150,000 and the investigation has now been turned over to the arson unit.

Gasoline cans and a sledge hammer were found at the scene according to the CBC, but no arrests have been made.

Monique works across the street and drove by on her way to work.  She tells 1310News all was quiet when she first arrived,  “I came here about I don’t know maybe twenty to five, there wasn’t anything and then five minutes later the fire trucks were here”

Firefighters credit the sprinkler system for lessening the impact the fire could have had.

The blaze briefly closed a section of Queen Street between Lyon and Bay Streets.

A section of Queen street was also closed Sunday afternoon into early Monday morning for a water main break.
