Smiths Falls man struck and killed while walking

A 51-year-old Rideau Lakes man faces charges of impaired driving causing death, after a pedestrian was killed near Golf Club Road.

Police said 40-year-old Thomas Irvine of Smiths Falls was walking on Country Road 29, 85 KM southwest of Ottawa when he was struck. The driver then fled the scene. He was located shortly afterwards.

Irvine was taken to hospital but later succumb to his injuries.

Williams Saunders faces a charge of failing to remain at the scene of the crime.
