Plenty of love for Barrhaven

Ottawa may be growing faster than the provincial average, but Barrhaven is among the fastest growing communities in the country.

According to the latest census,  Barrhaven grew at a 25 per cent rate from 2006 to 2011.  Cantly on the Quebec side also saw a 25 per cent increase during the same time period.

“Barrhaven has progressed from a sleepy suburb to a bustling area with everything people need from restaurants to shopping, from schools to recreation,” explained Barrhaven councillor Jan Harder.  “Young families are choosing suburbs as a place to raise their children because there is more space than the downtown has to offer.”

Many who live there told 1310News they agree with Harder, like this man who said “you get everything over here, there’s nothing missing […] from downtown.”

However, some said they were surprised by the news because they don’t understand why so many people would want to live so far from their downtown workplaces.
