The Ottawa Humane Society reporting a disturbing increase in the number of animals found in boxes taped shut and abandoned.
The first case saw a 4 month old kitten found alive taped inside a box in dumpster in the Hawthorne/Agnes Road area.
That was followed by three similar incidents in February, most recently involving a hamster that was found alive in a dumpster at Meadowlands and Ness.
Bruce Roney, executive director of the OHS, calls the discoveries “shocking”, adding he wants the community to know that it’s “unacceptable”.
Roney says the OHS would like to see more “maximum fines” and “jail term sentences” used to send a message to these criminals and irresponsible pet owners.
